The successful candidate will manage the online properties of an award-winning publishing house. The role requires managing clients, providing support and information to the company as a whole, and having a complete and thorough understanding of all online channels (web, mobile, eReaders) . You need to have a passion for the digital environment; know how to manage and deliver the magic when useablity, functionality and design come together, be conversant with the technical aspects of the various online channels, and understand database structure and design.

Over and above, you must ‘get’ how the online user communicates, how to drive calls to action and interactivity, the intricacies of search engine optimisation and the importance of design. Agency experience, especially in Client Service, would be beneficial. The role has an element of trafficking communication, so the ability to prioritise, communicate effectively and manage resources (external and internal) is important.

But the biggest, and most exciting, challenge is that you get to play a pivotal role in the evolution of publishing. It is pioneering territory at present – ready for big ideas, strategic direction and astute leaders.

Specifics & duties
•Act as a change agent: use your online knowledge and global publishing insights to shift and educate the print teams,drive meaningful change throughout the business, and contribute to the company’s ongoing success.
•Responsible for the performance and growth of current digital assets
•Direct or line-management of the team of on-line specialists, together with the editorial/publishing teams
•Pursue and create new business/revenue opportunities for existing digital products
•Develop digital strategies for titles that are appropriate for the audience, and enhance the brand.
•Assist and train on-line sales executives
•Project management and management of third party suppliers (developers, new media agencies, ad serving, etc) to deliver the best possible result, in a manner most appropriate for the brand, within budget.
•Thereafter, to build and maintain relationships to ensure the ongoing maintenance of the various elements, supported by both parties’ vested interests in making them successful.
•Manage the development process and ongoing maintenance requirements of all online properties (internal and external) – directly or in a support role
•Manage the suppliers to ensure they deliver what is expected, within budget and then deliver best possible product for the user and in keeping with the brand.
•Act as a knowledge base, and provide guidance and direction, for the online editors specifically – copy crafting, conceptualising, improvements for the user; and the editorial teams in general (useability, best practice, new technologies, etc).
•Development of concepts and the practical implementation of ideas for virtual communities, online marketing material/campaign ideas and digital communications for potential or existing clients; as well as facilitating internal synergies.
•Client service:– the ability to interpret Clients needs and communicate them effectively to the teams in order to deliver the right product; coupled with standard client service skills : the ability to present confidently, effective and delightful communication skills, and the desire to represent the company in the best possible fashion at all times.

Required skills
?Project Management and Client Service – both in terms of communicating with clients and executing projects successfully.
?Content structure: understand content hierarchy (IADs, page level specs, etc), usability, and users requirements and needs.
?Strategic thinking and communication: the ability to grasp industry sectors and Clients’ business challenges within this context; insights into what needs to be done, defining the best way to deliver a desired outcome that meets this challenge, the ability to convey it succinctly, and the means and willingness to get it done.
?Excellent computer skills: Windows, MS Office, Outlook, and basic HTML. Knowledge of a well-structured file organisation (directory housekeeping) will be beneficial.
?Thorough knowledge of the Internet and the management of websites, virtual communities, bulk mailing systems, analytics, SEO and social media.
?A marketing or communication background could be useful.
?Knowledge of database systems.
?Good communication and organisational skills.
?Creative brainstorming abilities.
?An appropriate tertiary qualification and relevant experience goes without saying
