Description
Our client, a leading publisher of contemporary glossies is looking for a Mid - Senior Designer to produce varied layouts, promotional designs and marketing collateral for one of their titles.

• Conceptualising and completing layouts for all the magazine’s BTL requirements, these include special projects, marketing support and advertorial promotional pages.
Due to the workload there is a need to do this quickly and creatively.

- You will be required to work on special projects from mock up to completion of project (e.g. special custom publishing projects, email & presentation templates, new brand extensions, new media platforms).

- You will be required to create special mock-ups from for the BTL promotions team to sell from.

- Design advertising promotion teasers for email headers on regular marketing communication when required.

• Must be proficient from concept, design, finished art and print production of e.g. Logo, corporate identity, email newsletters, brochures, BTL and ATL print campaigns.

• Maintain corporate identity of the magazine brand through logo spec sheets as well as design and help develop branded presentation background templates used for magazine presentations. (When needed)

• To assist with and coordinate picture sourcing when required for marketing or graphics for AV presentations.

• Each design element has to merge the needs of the Magazine and client brand, therefore an advertising focus is needed in terms of design. The designer will be responsible for all design elements and therefore would need to be proficient in understanding the different elements and the audience as well as the advertiser / sponsor objectives.

o Special Projects including Mock-ups
o Advertorial / Promotions pages
o Newsletters / flyers
o ATL Trade adverts
o Printed bags
o Cover mount cards / stickers
o Branding elements for event

• Ensuring all elements of the design (including logo’s, pay off lines, corporate colours adhere to the brand style guide) are placed on each layout in their appropriate positions.

• Reading all copy first to ensure that the layout as well as the visuals selected reflects the tone of the concept.

• Making sure layouts are technically sound and easy for copy editors to work on; ensuring all elements of the page (including flags, by-lines, gutter credits and page numbers) are placed on each layout in their appropriate positions; ensuring that current fonts and design elements are used.

• Picture sourcing and picture editing - making sure, when picture editing, that the title’s racial and lifestyle demographic is reflected.

• Helping with the production process, which includes: liaising with the managing editor and promotions co-ordinator on copy flow; ensuring layouts fit the flatplan; sending pages to repro and liaising with the repro house. Ensuring that the first and final batches of files for each issue are sent to repro timeously; making sure documents are prepared for delivery, on time, to the repro house and that each necessary element is included in the package sent (disk with file and any electronic images, trannies etc);

• Checking irises thoroughly and quickly before making any changes and sending them to repro; when necessary, checking the dummy book thoroughly and quickly before making any changes and sending it back to the printers;
Skills Required
A minimum of two years' proven magazine-design and special projects (supplements, booklets, etc) experience;
Creativity with strong design capabilities and technical knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop essential. Repro & Technical knowledge is an advantage.
Tertiary qualification in Design would be advantageous
