| A media agency is looking for a media buyer who will be responsible for the effective media buying, on accounts or assigned work, implementation planning, administration and budget control. Buying and negotiating, as well as evaluation and monitoring of activity which has been booked. Buyers are expected to work closely with the media team and provide strong support. | |||

| Responsibilities • Buying • Negotiating the best deals possible and monitoring client commitment levels • Ensuring that rates are correct and loaded onto the billing system accordingly • Ensuring there are no account queries and investigating and sorting them when they occur • Negotiate compensation for incorrect Media placement / bookings • Must understand chase lists for all Media to Brand Agencies • Being accountable for all financial queries • Liaising with media owners and providing relevant documentation i.e. CI’s • Evaluating booked media and providing post campaign information • Budget control – monthly budget reconciliation’s (NB – attention to detail) • Develop a strong understanding of their clients brands and business • Effective management and implementation of approved media plans • Champion the development of new business. Be part of a team to develop new business contacts • Drive new business pitches Skills required to perform • Technical: media maths, definitions, concepts, budget settings etc. • Computer literacy and aptitude (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) • Analysis and interpretation • Problem solving • Contribute, develop, execute new / creative ideas • Clear, logical, concise written and oral communication • Successfully applies learning from internal and external training • Must be a team player • It is essential that buyers display initiative and integrity and always strive to negotiate the best possible deal. Strong administrative skills are essential. • Buyers should understand the whole agency process and where media and media buying fit into the overall picture • The media buyers must understand that they are accountable for a large sum of money and take responsibility Professional Attributes • Productive (completes reasonable amount of work, of high acceptable standard, timeously) • Aptitude for numbers • Ability to work with speed under pressure • Attention to detail • Accuracy • Responsible • Reliable • Co-operative attitude • Credible • Willingness to learn, accept instructions, correction and supervision • Ability to establish rapport with brand team, clients, media representatives / agents • Flexibility • Proactive • Initiative or self-standing • Integrity |

| Knowledge required to perform • Media software packages (Telmar or AC Nielsen) to analyse and plan: ? TV ? Radio • Advertising process • Post-matric diploma, degree, qualification in marketing, communications, media – an advantage • It is essential that all buyers have a solid understanding of the billing process – from inception to client billing • A strong knowledge of Excel / Telmar is vital as well as knowledge of basic computer programs • Buyers should understand Telmar in order to buy TV spots effectively and to monitor post campaign data |
